I have a 1996 Volve penta 4.3 GL PNCS
s/n4110136897 3868477

I got a new ebasic power alternator and need to be sure these wires are correct. Best I can tell from some past forum posts they are but the wires I have from the factory link the red wire (s) to the purple wire (exec). I have not seen this in any photos or schematics yet. see the photo I have attached.

Thanks for your help

Well, not exactly. Your original alternator was a Motorola I believe, you now have a Mando. Wiring is a little different.

Don,

I think my original was a Mando. Here is a photo. Bearings were squaling. Did not take photos before removal. What do I do here to hook up correctly. Get new one?

Now that I look at it, either way will work. The S terminal is just picking power up from a different source.
Volvo changed from the purple to the orange wire going to the S termial in 98, why, can't say for sure. May see a little more consistant voltage on the main wire.

Thanks a bunch Don.

I am going to go hook up the battery and turn it on with the water muffs and see if all is well.

What readings on my voltmeter should I expect from each terminal while running.

Running at idle
terminal E ~14volts
terminal S and EXEC ~12-12.5 volts
terminal L2 ~14 volts and at fuel pump connection (seems high)
terminal P ~7.5 volts.

seem okay? I dont want to smoke any components. Not sure if at higher rpm if the terminal outputs are higher.
