1996 Yamaha 4 stoke 50hp outboard

I have an opportunity to buy a 1996 50hp Yamaha 4 stoke for $850. Supposedly all the motor needs is a little carb work as it will not idle long. It does run good as long as you do not have to idle it down more than a second or 2. This happened after motor set up over winter as it was not an issue last year. Any thoughts what the cost would be to have the carbs reworked? Is $850 an OK deal for this motor. Any an all comments welcome as I have to let the guy know by Tuesday. Thanks

"all it needs is. . . ." knocks 50% off the price of anything.

Tell him to fix it first and demo it on the water, then $850 is a decent price.
