Need to replace ignition switch. Also control box won't go into reverse or forward. Lower unit will shift fine disconnected.Any tips or clues how to get it out of control box? Have a post in the controls section, but seems no one reads those.

If it's the standard side mount, proably the fast idle shift lockout pin. Easy fix.

Yes Sir, side mount. And it seems to move the high idle lever when you try to put it in either gear. In fact, it will pop up if you try to hard. Will I see this pin when I open it up? I assume I have to take the cover off to get the ignition switch out?

Your throttle cable needs adjusting.... BY THE BOOK.

Can you move the throttle/shift with the cable disconnected at the motor? If not, look inside the control box which, as you say, you will need to replace the switch.

Item 67 links with item 20. It's made of plastic and can break. Improved version has an extended lug that slides on the case preventing flex and breakage.

Thanks Interalian, Ignition switch coming Friday. Will look at the shift lock out while I am in there. Hopefully will see something simple. If not guess I will look at adjusting the throttle cable BY THE BOOK LOL.

SORRY mate I can't type so I try to be very economical with words, that tends to make all my posts sound 'clipped & condescending'.
I've honestly been thinking about explaining my affliction in a tagline.
Here it is from an earlier model, your's is probably the same.

Was your malady sudden or has anything been apart recently or just before the problem?

No worries Fed. Thanks for the picture that is perfect. Interalian, I had started having issues going into reverse a few times out. First time it wouldn't go into forward though. I'll let you guys know how it comes out. You guys are alright. Thanks.

Update. This morning I removed the control box and noted the high idle lever nut was loose. Very loose. Tightened up the nut and now goes into forward and reverse better than it ever has. And for whatever reason, I have spark. Starts and idles great. Goes into both gears better than it ever has since I have owned the boat. Now my question/dilemma is how to get the control box back on. Heard the dreaded sound of the nuts falling off when removed the two mounting screws. I can't get my hands back there to get the nuts back on the screws. What is the secret? Any ideas? Thinking of cutting a round hole under the control box big enough to put my hand in there to hold the nuts and then covering up with a button plug. Any other way?

Got the control box remounted. Had to be contortionist but could reach the screws on the back and put on a couple of new nuts and lock washers. Thanks to interalian and fed for the very helpful replies and iboats to offer this great forum for the boating community. Greatly appreciated!

Good news! It's always satisfying to fix something and not spend money at a marina.
