Last weekend had a performance issue, could not get to WOT.. When it did randomly, it seemed like I pulled back the throttle (didn't)..

Today I ran the engine in big container of water... Noticed exhaust and water coming from where the Anodes are mounted (follow the link and look at piece 12) and haven't noticed that before. Also have a clicking sound.
Water pump works fine and today the water emitting from the pee hole was cooler than when I run it from the hose..

One major question I have is where should I see water coming out of the engine, except of course from the exhaust on the prop and the pee hole?

Here is where I see water

The three holes on the top of the engine leg are the exhaust relief. their purpose is to provide a smoother idle and help prevent stalling. when the boat is off plane, the engine is sitting very low in the water. There is a lot of backpressure on the exhaust. It and some cooling water is vented through those holes to relieve backpressure. So: It is normal to see water exiting there.

There is nothing behind the plastic plates covering the lower engine mounts except the mounts themselves. So normally you would not expect to see water exiting from there. Remove the 2 screws holding the plastic covers, remove the covers, and look in to see if there is a corrosion perforation of the midleg. Also check to see if water isn't dripping or squirting into that area from someplace else--like maybe a cracked speedometer hose.

Not too familiar with merc lower units, but I wouldn't be too worried about water coming from behind the anode. There is nothing behind the case there except the exhaust passage. Remember: most of the cooling water exits the exhaust. Again, remove the anode to check for perforations or water from another source.

Thanks for the info Frank!!

The exhaust was definitely "blowing" out from the anode area, so wouldn't that be an exhaust "leak" if it isn't supposed to be blowing out there?

Thanks again Frank!
