All, I have a 1997 Force / Merc 120hp. To start I must use the throttle forward unless she stalls out. No change after running for a while. On muffs starts fine. Had a mechanic check all the ignition system outputs, trigger and stator. Compression good, carbs removed and cleaned out. Choke seems to working good. Once started put in gear and sometimes stalls intermittanly, can get in trouble on windy days at the dock. Plugs new. Any advice?

Welcome to iboats boomer.

So the spark is good and strong?

And link n sync was performed after carb work?

Seems like you covered all the bases but the idle is still too low.

It won't idle in neutral at all???

Have you checked the fuel pump diaphragm?

Thanks, mostly at start up difficult to idle in nuetral. I do run it with stabil if it makes a difference. I have not replace the F/P Diaphragm yet. My mechanic was leaning towards a possible failure in the head gasket between 1/2 however no real indications of loss of compression etc.

I do understand that, I will replace the Diaphram tonight and hold off on the Head Gasket for now. I will do it my self.

Installing a F/P Diaghram kit seemed to work. Idles up and stays at idle. Now the Speedo stopped for some reason.

There's a flexible plastic tube that runs from the speedometer to a pickup either mounted on the transom or on the motor itself. If it's disconnected or squished flat, the speedometer will not work. If the pickup is mounted on the transom itself, it should hang down below the bottom edge of the hull. Usually it's a small white plastic thing. It may have gotten kicked up from hitting a small branch in the water. Just pop it back down. It's made to pop up to prevent it from getting broken off.

Guys got a bad power head. #3 compression down to 105 scored walls and piston looks bad. How difficult is this and roughly price?

Got my Power Head back by the end of October. Runs like a champ. Had a crushed bearing. Replaced all pistons, honed and "plateau finished". Definately picked up h/p and speed. Still breaking it in but back on the water..
