1997 Force Easy ?'s I guess

I have a 1997 40hp force.(which says by Mercury on it. I just wanted to know what are the best spark plugs(NGK etc..) to use. What octane fuel should I run? and is the water pump impellor easy to change on this. Thanks in advanced ! -Chris

NGK BUHW or Champion L76V<br /><br /><br />Fuel, 87 octane - alcohol free, with tc-w3 oil mixed at 50:1<br /><br />Impeller change is easy, if you have a repair manual, and some basic tools.

Is that a 10 1/2 inch prop? its a 40 hp

It may have one of several props.<br />Remove it and look for numbers on the hub area. If it is a Mercury prop, it will be something like this. 48-73138-a40<br /><br />Post what you find.

48 73134a40 12p Roscoe, do you like the NGK's? the reason I ask is because this is what the Merc's come with and I have always had good luck with them.

Yes I like the ngk, gave up in the Champions after years of fouling them in my other motors. They are easy to clean and no gapping. Hard to find the Champion gapless anywhere around here.<br /><br />The prop you have is a 12 pitch.<br />That is a very common prop used on many motors from the early 80's thru the 90's. 25hp Bigfoot, 40-70 hp Mercs and Mariners, Force 40,50, and 70hp from the 90's<br /><br /><br />The prop diameters vary from about 10.25 thru 11 inches.<br />48-73130 10 pitch<br />48-73132 11 pitch<br />48-73134 12 pitch<br />48-73136 13 pitch<br />48-73138 14 pitch<br />48-73140 15 pitch<br />48-73142 16 pitch<br />48-73144 17 pitch
