.......Hard starting and running problems.
There are a number of previous posts from folks having similar problems with this engine or associated parts. So far no answers I've found fix mine. So....
Mine starts in the parking lot, then won't start at the Lake, when it does finally run, It won't start after sitting for several hours.
The oil pressure comes up to 50# as indicated on the gauge while cranking the engine. As some folks have stated the fuel pump is pressure activated. Is there any way to test this fuel pump to see if its working or how do I check the sending unit that activates the pump?
Hope I have given enough info, if not bear with me. I'm sure I'm missing something, that's why I'm here !!!
Thanks fellows!!

Re: 1997 Mercruiser 4.3LX Alpha One.........

I'm not an expert, but I'd look at the fuel system. Specifically the path that the fuel takes from the tank to the carb. My thoughts lean towards the angle that the boat sits at on the trailer vs in the water. Maybe with the bow up high on the trailer, enough gas gets by (doesn't need much without a load) to run. Once it is in the water, it would have to pull a vaccum against the tank/fuel line/anti-siphon valve/fuel filter to raise the fuel to the carb.

Hope that this helps,

A Test Light on the (+) wire of the Fuelpump will tell you if it's getting Power,+ When.........
