Welk, I was supposed to splash the boat tomorrow, but the weather isn't going to cooperate. My buddy finally had time available and we were each going to bring our boats. Dangitall.

Winds are supposed to be 15-20mph and that's too much for me. :(

I hear ya, 15 mph wind is OK in my area but 20 and over makes for a very rough day, I prefer around 10 mph and so do the fish !

Yeah, for a first splash, I pretty want 0-5mph. After I'm used to the boat and satisfied with its reliability, I'd stay out and fish until the wind kicks up to about 15, then I'd call it a day and head home.

When I splashed the Kingfisher 5 years ago, the temp was 82 with low humidity and a very gentle 2-3mph breeze. Perfect!

I have a number of places around me that can be protected from wind depending which way it is coming from. I often go for a ride in the river when the big lake can be rolling 2-3 ft, the river is only 6".....

Same for me but I can be on my lake. If wind expected I then choose my launch point. Lots of skinny water I can hide in.

We had winds to 24mph yesterday. I'm glad that I passed on the splash.
Got the grass cut too. 🚜

While cutting the grass this morning, I couldn't help but notice how "right" that 150HP XR6 Merc would look sitting on the back of the Chief.

Oh snap thought you had sold the chief already....
Nah, it's still out there. I've had it for sale off and on and mostly get low-ballers and broke jokers who want me to finance.

I'm in no rush. If it sells, it sells.

Sigh.

I'm having video editing software issues. So for now, I'll just summarize.

My neighbor buddy went with me to my favorite 450 acre lake early this afternoon, where we got the splash done. He captured some video from his own boat, as well as recording some inside my boat while under way.

The 1992 Merc XR6 150HP outboard performed perfectly (after my friend fixed the range of motion of the throttle controller that somebody caused. 🤪)

Top speed recorded was 50mph with just me in the boat, but I was quickly running out of lake, so had to slow down. I also need to get used to the tilt/trim on this engine. I believe that I could have increased tilt and subsequent speed even more. With my buddy in the boat, top speed recorded was 49mph.

The engine is absolutely eager to go. It's free-breathing nature is readily apparent once the throttle is moved.

The boat itself is very stable, handling high speed and turns with aplomb. Walking back and forth across the boat while at rest or slow speed leads to negligible listing. Even with my buddy standing right next to me at the side, the boat didn't seem to lean over very much at all. Nice.

I had absolutely no gauges working. Not good. 😒

Overall - it's clear that this is a project boat and that it needs a lot of work to be a full fledged fishing machine. And I'm not sure if I'll be able to get it to that point.

Oh yeah, the heat was absolutely oppressive today. Absolutely steamy with 92 degree heat and 95% humidity. More like July than May. And I'm learning that I just can't take that kind of heat anymore. 🥵
