I am in the process of replacing my thermostats on my 1998 115 V4 and am having trouble getting them back on the motor. I got the housing off without removing any other parts but put it back seems to be a bit harder since in have to get the spring on the pressure relief valves back in place. Anyone have any tips on this or do i need to remove additional parts to do this correctly?
Thanks,
Randall

Re: 1998 115 V4 thermstat question

I have a 140 V4. When I replaced mine I think I created new cuss words never heard of before.. Although I dont remember the exact procedure I used I do remember adhereing the gaskets to the block and cover prior to assembly inorder to hold them in place using OMC gasket adhesive. When it came to compressing the springs I used screwdrivers to hold the assembly in place while a friend inserted the screws.

Definatly sounds easier than it actually is..
Hope this helps..

patience
I assume you have already removed the lower cowl trim. then use adhesive M or the BRP equivalent or 3m super weather strip adhesive and glue the gasket to the cover, the holder to the cover and the gasket to the cover, dont clog the vent hole in the holder. then use gasket maker or perfect seal on the cover gasket to powerhead adapter. DO NOT use adhesiveM or weather strip adhesive on the cover gasket to power head adapter. you may be the fool that has to remove it next time :) :) . after that its a matter of patience and careful positioning. I use a long screwdriver from underneath to holt the assy while I am starting the top center bolt. but its lots of fun. I have it down to under an hour if corrosion is not bad.

From the other post. Split the pan and remove it. You will have all the room in the world then.

Re: 1998 115 V4 thermstat question

In another post, someone suggested using rubber bands to hold the assembly together. Partial assembly and then cut the bands loose. I do not know if this applies to your situation.
