My buddy has a 1998 130 hp yamaha he had the carbs rebuilt last year. And ever since then it spits and misses at any rpm below 2000. After 2000 it takes off and runs great. He has tryed changing the fuel filter new plugs and different fuel and the same thing happens he has ran out of options. And nobody he has talked to knows what the problem is. The guy who rebuilt the carbs claims that is normal. I said bull S... the motor has very low running hours and babied it's whole life it is on a wellcraft v20 and used for fishing out in the bay thanks for all your help Dan

Re: 1998 130 Yamaha not running right

My 98 200's has idleing problems if the boat sets up for more than 2-3 months at a time. I have to remove the carbs and clean and blow compressed air thru the idle passages at the bottom of the carb throat and just behind the butterfly flapper. If I use the boat more often, no problems. I know if you use a fuel additive all the time it certainly helps keep the carbs cleaner longer.

My buddys yam 225 just had a ruptured fuel pump diaphram that caused the same type of low speed problems. He also noticed 1/2 the fuel economy because raw fuel was being sucked into the motor. A test for this is if your squeeze ball doesnt get hard you know the gas is either going past the carb floats or one or more of the 3 fuel pump diaphrams is leaking.
