Idles poorly and then cuts out. Carbs are clean and rebuilt. Squeezing the bulb makes no difference. Tapping the key to activate the primer makes the motor idle smoothly. The warning beeper is very faint but I can hear one beep per second. I wrote the warning beep meanings down but I have lost the paper. I will check the fuel housing mounted fuel filter tomorrow.
Tell me what the beep codes are please. Are the beeps I am getting indicative of low vacuum.
Thanks again guys.

Motor mounted Fuel filter not dirty.
Additional info. Once we get off idle the motor comes up ok. Plugs look a little dry. Using premix on this motor. We have a water trap filter in line now which will require a little extra effort on the part of the fuel pump. The idle was was good with the occasional flutter before the filter was added. I did not add the WT filter and I set the idle up to run before the motor left me.
Your opinions on this would be greatly appreciated.
Probably need to replace that warning horn.

screw in the idle needles until the seat and then unscrew them 5 turns. that's the factory adjustment.....the problem could be your carbs were replaced at some point by another years carbs that the book "SAYS FITS"...but they have a different idle setting!!!!!!!!!!!! we might wonder WHO rebuilt and HOW they were done.bob

Gee, what about checking the timing at idle? James, It sounds like you could use a factory Service manual. Have your model number handy (J150EXECD?) and get the part number from the marineengine website and search for the best price. I ended up buying from Duskymarine.

Thanks for the responses guys. My putting out the thread got me to thinking. The boat owner fitted the WT filter. Checked the hose connections. He used a hose clip on the input and two cable ties on the output. Of course the output hose was loose. I have now fitted a hose clip and bingo we have fuel pressure. Reset all the carbs and the idle timing and all is well. The beeps were coming from the oil system. The two pin plug under the pump was still connected.
I still need the info on the beep warning codes.
Thanks again.

I seem to remember there was a beeping pattern to the alarms for a few years, then I think they just went to a single beep for all alarms and you could look at the systems check tach for what light was on......so there may only be a single horn sounds on your motor. bob

I looked in my '98 Johnny 150HPV6 OEM Service Manual, but could not find the description of the beeps, if you do not have a System Check Gauge. I dug this up on the web, but not sure if it applies to you:

The following is based on the shop manual for a 1990 Johnson:
A continuous alarm means either an overheat condition or a fuel restriction.

NO oil would be a continuous beeping 1/2 second on - 1/2 second off. Low oil would be a beep every 20 seconds.

the 1997 manual for that motor......says there is an alarm that sounds continuous..... and it is for all alarms.....you need to look at the systems check tach lights to know what the alarm is for.... there is a diagnostic mode as well using the key and the tach...if you short the sender leads to ground and looking at the tach..... you really need to get the manual to read and decipher it yourself though. I am going to guess that all the warning horms signals are the same for the 1998 models....a single 10 second alarm...the book says the horn alarm system gets activated once the rpms go above 1000 rpms..... good luck
