The local Dealer has a 1998 E25RMECA outboard. Does anyone have a review or info on this motor? What to look out for or if it was a trouble proned engine. Looking to use it for a dual purpose Kicker and for another small 14' aluminum. Thanks

That is a 3 cylinder motor. Make sure the oil injection has been bypassed. But if it was me spending the money I would look for the 2 cylinder 25 hp evinrude. The 3 cylinders seem to be overly complicated and they were not made for that long parts so could be an issue.. The 2 cylinder was made for a lot of years and parts availability will be better.

Post # 2 has top notch information for you !-----But I will add to that.-----Those 3 cylinder motors are very heavy.----The ignition system has very expensive parts compared to the 2 cylinder models.---CD unit may not be available in aftermarket !-------3 carburetors that may need maintenance.----2 fuel pumps as well.---------Heavy duty crankshaft with same main bearings as a 70 hp motor.------Do you do your own work on motors or do you run to the $ 100 / hr shop ?

I will do a pros and cons for you then you can decide for yourself.

Pros
Smooth runner well built
Reliable as long as the oil injection is removed
Some after market parts available for ignition.
Probably been rebuilt

I put rebuilt in both columns because a rebuild is a good thing. Unless something happens and you find out it can't be rebuilt again.

Cons
3 cyl does not add any extra power still 25 hp
Parts Are expensive even aftermarket ones
Only made those for about 5 yrs
Hard to work on yourself
WAY to complicated for a 2 strk
Probably been rebuilt
Heavy weighs about 150-160 #s not the easiest motor to move back and forth.
