Re: 1998 Chaparral 1830ss / 4.3 v6
No question I am getting ripped off. If I had the time and some instruction I would love to learn how to do it myself. In addition to just the maintainance and winterizing I have to have whatever is causing my outdrive to use lube fixed as well which will certainly add to the bill. It went from 'maybe it's an air bubble' to 'this is getting bad' this season. I could make the time but am clueless on how to do stuff on this engine and outdrive. The really sad part is that I am the son of a retired auto mechanic and never really much paid attention to my dad turning wrenches all those years. I can tackle most things that might require a pro around the house but am all thumbs on the boat. I need to see stuff done once and can generally do it myself from there but haven't ever seen anything done on an outdrive or boat engine. I told my wife how much it all will cost and that was a mistake.
Learn how to do your own maintenance (it's not hard at all) and that $1000 becomes $100.
