1998 Ficht 175 Johnsons

I am looking at a used boat that I really like. I am worried about the engine. It is a 1998 175 HP Johnson Ficht. Did the 98 models have problems. Were there any recalls on them? I heard a lot about problems that the Ficht engines had (even burning up the power heads) .<br /><br />I know the 150 hp really had problems<br /> Thanks Don

my barber ( i know it sounds stupid lol) but anyway we talk boats ,fishing etc.. while he cuts my hair and he had nightmares with his 1998 175 ficht,he bought it new and replaced powerhead after 120 hours,then lower unit went,so on and so on until he finaly demanded another engine.He now runs a 2001 ficht and he is very happy with it.

DIH, ... I have customers with 2000 fichts, on there second powerhead. If you buy it get a extended warranty (agood one) I just got in a replacement powerhead today checked the price, 8,100 dollars. You couldnt get off Gilligans island with a ficht. (maybe thats why they stayed there??) My advice RUN LIKE **** .

Thanks for the reply and information. I guess I answered my own question when I did not feel right about the Ficht when I looked at the boat. Too bad, nice hull, good deal, maybe too good of a deal for a purpose.<br /><br />DIH
