I have a 1998 Force (Mercury) 75hp on a 1998 Tracker pt185.

Ever since I purchased it new in 1998, the motor has had a rough idle and stalling problem.

Last time it was in the shop, they suggested I run fuel system cleaner - which I did. No change.

The stamp on top of the engine says Champion L67V spark plugs, which I changed out with BHM-plugs by Champion.

Gauge on the stamp N/A

looking for suggestions on how to keep her running during trips thru the no wake/idle zone areas.

Thanks,

Ben

Re: 1998 FORCE 75hp - Rough Idle/stalling

Profile?? Location??
98/75 only one carb,on the stbd.side/rear of the carb.A screw with a spring.
It should be set at 1 turn out.
You need to start with a compression/spark test.
Use a spark strength checker. The spark should jump almost 7/16 to 1/2in.
Clean the carb, then while it's off check the reeds for broken, missing or the blades too far open??
The choke/enricher MIGHT?? be adding more fuel at an idle and making it run bad.
You can try pinching off one or the other lines from the enricher?
The fuel pump, take it apart and make sure the valves and diaphram is ok.
No holes(diaphram) and the valves, flat no bends.
