You can pick probably anything. Bigger so that it doesn't break in half. 5A or bigger....Not because of the current but because of the physical size.

Very amazed the diode failed but stranger things happen.

Good work on finding it. Surprised both it and the alternator failed at same time.

Bruce, I am coming back to you because you seem to have a wealth of knowlege. I have another issue. Red oil in bottom of boat. Is the power steering pump located on the front of the engine where there is a small black cap. Fluid level is low on this. Can power steering fluid be red?

Yes power steering fluid is red. You have a leak in the system somewhere.
