Hi.
Help.

Oh wait - First, why is there no "130" in the "Johnson engines by Horsepower" section out on the main page???

OK... Last fall when I went to winterize my boat, I took off the engine cover and I discovered some 2-stroke engine oil puddles down in the valleys of the case, or shroud, or pan, or whatever you want to call it.

I almost instantly got 'sick', and decided to deal with it this coming Spring.

Any input on how to troubleshoot this?

Thanks

welcome to iboats, if i knew what you were calling the main page. i might be able to answer.

a lot of times if the motor is left in the tilted up position, the carbs are out of lever and allow gas/oil to leak (runover) from them.

To hairyfitz: Probably the air silencer cover or the gasket is not tight so that the oil that runs back from the intake manifold for recycling is spilling out. Alternatively, make sure that the drain hose is on.

The motor should not be stored tilted - it will not drain properly when tilted, allowing condensation to remain in the engine and water trapped in the gearcase to freeze. It also causes left over excess oil to be more likely to run into the bottom of the air silencer and spill.

Thanks for the insight!
I think that most of the time this past summer, when I put the boat on the lift at the end of the weekend, I had the engine tilted up... at varying degrees.
I hope this is all it is becuz I just spent $3500 putting a new bottom end on it a year ago.... I'm hoping it's not a lemon.!
