I have had this Johnson 175 Ficht for many years now and its been very reliable and I havent had to dump a lot of money into it. Over the last few years the motor will occasionally bog down when running at 2500 - 3500 rpms, I would slow it down and put it in nuetral and the motor would make a gurgling sound, sputter and then run normal afterwards. I have the service manual and I know the engine intimately but I have not been abel to pinpoint the source of this problem, I'm wondering if I need to service the Diaphragm type fuel pump or the vapor seperating tank?

do you have EV diagnostics software ... maybe a logged trouble code could direct you to the source problem.🪳 see attched doc on EV diagnostic software good on FICHT to modern ETECs

Fuel delivery issues may be the cause .
25 year old injector engine... ever had the injectors cleaned ?? have you tried engine/injector cleaners for a few runs ?

the VST is just a cooling can with a vent on top. if the vent stays open fuel may reach the crankcase and cause over rich fuel mix for a given air intake. on more modern ETECs ... the float has been known to malfunction....easy fix with dexterity !!!:)

carefull not to break off any VST nipples $$$ :eek:if you do venture to check internals

Thank you both for your insight, I will start by draining the fuel tank and replacing it with fresh gas, I will also run the injector cleaner through the engine and see where that takes me. I do have the EV diagnostic software and unfortunately it is not throwing any codes.

no codes is good ! if no results observed with injector cleaner or similar engine cleaner product it might be fuel presssure, doing the injectors after some 20+ years can't hurt. check all filters .
some like seafoam some don't . it did wonders on my snowblower carb !
