The vanes don't cup the water. Figure out the direction of rotation of your shaft and then remember the vanes follow the rotation. Are you certain the impeller isn't slipping on the shaft? Is the little keeper in place? Rick.

6...with the impeller in the pump body and viewed from the bottom..the vanes should align and sweep in a ccw direction...cw if viewed from the top. The base plate..viewed fom the bottom with it in proper position...has the water entry slot ( the smiley face ) in the 12 oclock to 2 oclock position. The water exit slot from the cup is in the 6 to 8 position. If the impeller is properly keyed to the shaft, and the pump is sealed, and if water is getting up into the pump body...wellllllllllll...it's gotta exit somewhere. I doubt I'm telling you anything you don't already know. Gotta be something simple.

6...thought of one other thing, have the hub and rubber portion of the impeller separated? This would allow the hub to spin w/o the vanes spinning. Just a thought.

The keeper has always been in place Rick and Aitn the alignment has always been as you described and shaft rotation looking from above is cw so that's why the vanes follow the rotation as you both said. The impeller hub on both impellers is sound. It is pretty simple pumping technology and everything looks good and I certainly realise that it is difficult trying to troubleshoot this when it isn't in front of you. It certainly doesn't make sense, this unit is clean, the floways are clear, the stat tested fine , the impeller is new, the seals are good, the outlet grommet good. I will put it back on the main body and try again, maybe the hose adaptor flush did something, who knows it's worth a try. Thanks I will post when I do it.

Replace the housing and plate as well , they do not require adhesive but if you want to try it go for it. I had a housing that gave me fits, new impeller and wouldn't pump to save it's life, swapped the housing and it worked like a charm.

Replaced pump with Sierra replacement kit and it pumps a little better but not a significant improvement like I thought, but will have to live with it. Might have to set throttle idle higher than I want but will test on the lake soon. Thanks to all who aided me in this adventure as this novel comes to an end.
