1999 90HP Force surging at WOT

Check valves look nice and flat to the mounting surface and appear to be properly secured with the little plastic pins. When I had the gaskets installed wrong I think it was just not making a seal and so air was escaping through the sides. Once I flipped em around I was only able to blow through the direction of gas flow. I may have a chance to get it on the water today I'll post if I do...

It was the gasket. Took it out this afternoon and she creeped crawled and hauled ass! Thank you all so much for the awesome advice!

You said that you rebuilt your carbs, did you just spray them off or did you soak them for a period and use compressed air to clear out every one of the tiny passages in each carb? Also, did you sync them/ link n sync?

I use chem dip to soak the carbs in and have had wonderful results.

Some ??? carbs have a rubber seat in the needle/seat and the soaks can eat the rubber seat and destroy it.
​The soaks can eat the end of some needles(rubber also).
The plastic can also be affected.

I use the deep soak on most auto carbs after they've been stripped.

I took em apart and cleaned with some generic "carb cleaner" and replaced gaskets. Didn't soak but all seems to be well for now! Funny thing, I watched a youtube video when re-building the fuel pump and the guy made the same mistake installing gasket on the wrong side, which I copied. Went back and watched the video and noticed he added some text during that part that says something along the lines of "put gasket in wrong but I fixed it" but I didn't notice it. Should have gone straight to the technical diagram for that one lol! I did not do the link/sync, just visually inspected them for sync. Is this something that should be done every time you have the carbs off? Saw a post about it but I didn't get into the details...Thanks again this forum is gold.

If the butterflies on the carbs are opening exactly together in unison or "in sync", then there is no need to do the link and sync.

If you didn't take the connecting bar off then a link and sinc isn't usually needed.
