I actually just installed the new starter today. With the newer vortec pan, the timing cover doesn't make a tight fit. Guess what? gasket fills the void nicely.

The breaker just passes power, so when the key is turned to ON and the gauges come alive, and the motor can crank, the breaker is working, otherwise none of that would happen

Makes sense. So this problem has plagued me all summer. NO CRANK WHEN HOT, NO POWER TO ACTIVATE RELAY. I have got good at starting the motor by jumping the relay. I went back and reviewed the wiring diagram. I essentially eliminated everything (Ignition key, neutral safety switch, solenoid, starter) besides the wire junction. Where is that? Its very cramped back there and I cannot seem to follow the yellow wires leaving the relay. Could a wiring junction be heat sensitive? What else could be heat sensitive in the starter circuit? It's very difficult to troubleshoot since its cooled down and starts normal by the time i trailer it home.

Being able to start the motor by jumping the slave relay means power is at the motor, otherwise it would crank but not start

If its just the Yellow/Red wire and its not the neutral safety then look at the 10 pin connector
