Hi All,

In reference to the attached photo, that retainer ring and the spring under it pop out shortly after I install it and start the engine. Sometimes it will run for 30 seconds, sometimes 5 minutes. Is there any tricks out that that I can use to set that ring so it doesn't pop out? If you are familiar with this motor, there is no fuel pump replacement available, only a repair kit that does not have the parts to correct my issue. If there is an alternative, I have been unable to find it after many hours of searching. The part number for the fuel pump is 435352. Thanks in advance for any suggestions anyone has.

Your location ?-----I am aware of issues with these pumps.------One of these days I will look at the pumps that I have on 3 of these parts motors to see what can be done.----Adapt a pump of a HONDA / SUZUKI / YAMAHA or TOHATSU.

I'm in Ortonville, Michigan. I've read several threads about problems with these pumps, just none that addressed my particular problem. Do you know what that spring assembly/retainer clip portion is called? I assume people must have this problem with other pumps as well. I wasn't sure what to look up and when I look at diagrams none of them specify what exactly those pieces are called or what they do.

The spring holds a wee disc / check valve in place.-----I know how to fix that if it were mine.------Would involve drilling wee holes along with wee screws to hold that spring in place.

Yep! I see the disc in there. Wow, yeah that would have to be some really tiny holes. I'm scared I would mess it up if I started drilling holes then I'd really be screwed.

That pump is very similar to the 2 stroke pumps.----Myself I would look in the parts bin to see if I could salvage a metal piece to hold that spring.----But I do not know what tools or parts are in your work shop.----At one time I worked in a shop where one of the jobs was a 0-80 screw thread in stainless.---So yes could fix that pump if I had no other choice.

I bought a 2 stroke pump and tried making it work, but I was not able to get a good seal . I'm pretty resourceful, so if I don't have parts, I'll find them. If I got a stainless washer that was a bit wider than the retainer clip (same inner diameter), and screwed that down to the plastic housing, would that interfere with the functionality at all? I did a sloppy sketch of what I mean if my description is not clear. The red being a washer and black dots being screws.

Something like that would work if you made sure to put correct load on the spring.----Perhaps J-B weld epoxy can also be used in some way.

I would keep the existing retaining ring under the washer so the original parts should function the same. My biggest concern was adding that washer interfering with the functionality. I'll give it a shot in the next few days and let you know how it goes. I appreciate your input very much!!!

Good news. I ended up using Seal All to seat the retaining washer and ran the boat for about an hour yesterday with no issues. Time will tell how long it lasts. Thanks for your advice!

I hope you took pictures of internal parts, I have a pump that someone has already been in. Don't know what parts I should have. I have not taken it apart yet. If you know how many pieces there are or have pictures, I would surely like to have them. Thanks

Sorry, other than the photo shown earlier in the post, I do not have additional photos. They only parts I messed with is what is shown in the photo. There is a small metal disc (about 1/4"), on top of the disc there is a spring, then the retainer ring that I mentioned which is what I used seal all to hold in.

My pleasure. I don't know much about this stuff but feel free to ask questions and I'll try to help and if I can't help there are some very wise people here that will hopefully chime in :)
