My 1999 175 hp ficht has recently developed an issue where on a long run it will shut off at w.o.t. After it shuts off, I have to trim it up to get it to start back up. When I do this, it starts back up immediately with no hesitation. Other than this issue the motor runs amazingly. I thought it might be a fuel issue so I replaced the high pressure fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel water seperator, fuel lines and primer bulb. I took it out today to test it, everything went fine on my 5 mile run down the lake but after stopping and fishing for a little while I made another couple of mile run and the issue returned. Does anyone have any idea what my problem could be? Any suggestions on other things that I could check?

It's not, I should have mentioned that I checked that also. Its getting good flow through it. If the emm were overheating it would have a cooldown period before the motor would start back up wouldn't it?

When it happens, it happens without warning, no check engine lights, no alarms nothing. What really puzzles me is the fact that after dying it doesn't want to start back up unless I trim the motor up.

Empty your canister filter into a glass jar and let it settle out. Look for water at the bottom of the jar. If you have a built-in tank, you may have a water issue.

Think it would be a good idea to find out what the relays control. Might need replacement if available. Faztbullet's reference to solder joints is good. If you can get at the wiring, a warm soldering iron can sometimes restore a failing circuit, sometimes requiring additional solder as might already be on the iron when heated up. Cheap fix, if it works.

see pic main +12 & grd solder points are the main suspects.. as with any cold solder joint drawing extra current (power trim ?) may temporarily "close" the weak joint....followed failure due to engine vibrations. next failure...try tapping the PDP while holding the start key ON
