I have just rebuilt this motor and did not find the timing marker plate, The Seloc manual shows a photo of it but it does not appear on the parts list.
Is it me or is this just another mercury quirk.
Would like to check the timing before putting the motor back into service.
Any help would be appreciated.

Take #1 spark plug out, rotate the motor until #1 piston is at top dead center. Sometimes it makes it easier to take a dowel rod or a screw driver and put it into the spark plug hole until it touches the top of the piston and slowly rotate the flywheel to determine exactly when the piston reaches TDC. Look at where the TDC or zero degree mark is on the flywheel. Fabricate a pointer to point at that mark. That's your timing mark.

Thanks pnwboat. Of course I knew that but your comment made me go through the motions and lo and behold down below where the flywheel zero set, way down on the intake manifold, cast into the manifold, is a raised marker. Couldn't see it painted black in the shadow. Now it is white. Thanks again.

Maybe that explains why you couldn't find it on the parts list? Regardless, sounds like your are all set.
