sounds like maybe your trim motor has went out.some merc motors have a relief screw that you can loosen to raise the motor by hand.

Assuming it is your trim motor that has failed and not the trim cylinders locked up, you can manually tilt motor by loosening tilt release valve screw 3 turns (clockwise). the screw is located at the bottom of the trim motor and is accessed through a hole at the bottom of the mounting bracket on the right hand side of motor, if you kneel down to look through hole in bracket you will see a fairly large slotted plastic screw plug, raise motor to your desired position and retighten screw plug to lock.

the motor can be used in the same situation if the trim motor fails by using the same procedure (it is critical the screw plug be tightened before operating motor)
Bob

Had same symptoms a while ago, water had ingressed into trim motor, after pulling it apart I found one of the fixed magnets had un-bonded itself from the outer casing and had stuck itself to the armature, I found with ease that the other magnet also came away from the outer casing. After marking the polarity and possitions of the magnets I cleaned away all the residue of dried glue and used wire wool to clean the inside of the casing. Carefully glued the magnets back into original position, while I was in there I changed the brushes and cleaned the commutator, re-greased and reassembled. It worked like brand new..Found out where the water was getting in, half way up the cable that feeds the motor there was a crack in the outer insulation and water was going down the inside of the cable... When I first saw the sorry mess I thought it was going to cost but you never know untill you try..

Best of luck, let us know how you get on..Keith B..
