I have a 1999 Tracker 75 hp engine on my Pro Team 185.
It's always run great but for some weird reason this weekend when I brought it out. I tried to start it and it started but died on me. I tried again, it started briefly. I tried to give it a little throttle next time I started it to hopefully keep it ideling. But it would never start. Nothing, not even a putt. It turns over good but no ignition. I checked my plugs which looked a little wet so I thought I had flooded it. Dried the plugs out and waited for awhile, tried again but nothing. Checked to make sure had gas going to carb and that looked good as did spark going to all 3 spark plugs. Run switch is of course in the on position. Is there anything anyone could recommend before I bring this to my local shop and have to leave it for a month! Thanks for any and all help.
Jerry

Yep, already tried that. Got to the part where it said that it might have something to do with my carburetor float needle. However, no furthur info was provided on how to check it etc.

Did you chk that run sw and flip it up and down a couple times?corrosion you know the lanyard sw.
you said you had spark at all the plugs? thats strange.how did you chk for spark at the plug
Is your boat stored out side or in the water ?
Could you have water in the fuel.

Re: 1999 Merc/Tracker 75hp won't start

I flipped the run switch on and off many times throughout this problem. I would think that if that was messed up I wouldn't be getting any spark at all to my plugs. I checked my plugs by taking each one out and placing it against the engine block and then cranking the engine. As a friend of mine cranked the engine I could see the plug sparking. The fuel in it is brand new, just filled up prior to this happening. Same gas as I run in my vehicle with no problems.
I'm wondering if my firing order has gotten so messed up for some reason it won't start? Timing maybe?
thanks for your help.

well you have spark is it strong enough to jump across a 7/16 gap ? What about compression ?
on your remote control atachment side is a little roller with a white line on it does it line up with the line on the arm for advancing timing in neutral pos.? You can chk the timing with a inductive timing light, remove the flwheel cover place pickup coil on top sparkplug wire and remove all other plugs.
Crank engine point timing light at indicator on flywheel see if it is 2deg/atdc to 6deg/btdc.
Rich
