1999 yami 150 smoker multiple issues

a buddy sheared his impeller and triggered the overheat alarm a few weeks ago. the boat is ran 5-6 times a year and i rag on him for not using it enough or maintaining it properly. no hour meter, but i would say 100 hours.

i had difficulty locating loctite 572 and after an email to loctite, i used 574 to reassemble the water pump and lower unit.

at the ramp the telltale had a good stream, but at least on of the stats is stuck open. he wanted to go home, but stupid me said lets take it for a spin.

he was driving and was not keeping an eye on the gages. she was not charging, started running like crap and died out in the main channel. a couple guys in a bass tourney came to our rescue, but i let them go catch one more and hit weight in before they towed us in. thanks guys. (by the way, the flywheel cover makes a great paddle.) i pulled the battery out of my boat after we returned to the barn, started it and she is not putting out any juice.

all circuits looked good, so i am assuming the rectifier went south and should have the new one today. is the water cooled rectifier going the burn up without cooling water(?). i seemed like a diode shorted and sucked the bottom right out of the battery. i lost my meter, so this is a shot in the dark.

now, my question is the 02 sensor. should the unit be cleaned with sea-foam or should i use the torch as the manual perscribes? she was running like crap, but the voltage was low.

he bought some yami ring free, but would he better off using seafoam as a fuel additive.

use seafoam but dont submerge it. if you submerge it it wont work again. you will need to pull the holder and clean the draw tube as well.the tourh is a testing method that does not work.

thanks rodbolt. you saved me from killing the o2 sensor.

i'm going to bring a back up boat for the test runs tonight. i like the 'change one thing at a time method,' so i guess i'll be working at the parking lot at the ramp.

the new rectifier and thus the proper voltage cured the performance issues. 14 volt output was nice.

5200 rpm would hit 43 mph with the 17 pitch prop on a 19 foot grady.

A bad or dischaged battery can cause the rectifier to over load and short. Check the battery and connections carefully and watch for any signs of low voltage to be sure the problem is solved.

thanks ray. yes, one of the middle cells had gassed off below the plates and at least diode was a short circuit.

i'll give him my hydrometer to keep an eye on the specific gravity of the new battery and 'borrow' his battery charger and spot light.

edit. on a brighter note, the guys that towed us back to the ramp, WON the tournament and would not accept any gas money. thanks Mr. Phelps, i owe ya six cold ones.
