Need help....

I have a 91 4 winns with a 2.3 OMC Ford. It runs good but for the past 3 seasons it has had a dead spot in the throttle. I can push through and it will go. WOT is about 5000 RPM. Just cant ease the throttle up, it will sputter and die if I don't give it more throttle. I have rebuilt the carb, changed the dist cap, wires, plugs, the anti siphon valve and the fuel lines from the gas tank. It's been in the shop 3 times and they can't seem to find the problem. It's in the shop now and they are changing the points and condenser. It only does this under a load. Any one have ideas where else to look. The shift assist has been disconnected and no change.

Ayuh,... My guess is, the carb just ain't doin' it's job right....

Rebuildin' ole carbs is a 50/ 50 shot, even for a well equipped shop...

shift assist wont effect when throttleing up, I'd suggest triple checking the Accelerator Pump Circuit in the Carb.

Re: 2.3 OMC Cobra

Here`s an update, the shop put in new points, condensor and reset timing. Guy said "its not pumping much water" not "its not pumping any water". Took it out and immediatly overheated, to the point it melted the impellor housing. Changed that, and no more overheating. Ran a little rough and seemed to have a lot less power before and after overheating. Suddenly wile pulling my son-in-law in a tube it wouldn't go above 3000 rpm and wouldn't go fast enough to plane out. Still has the original problem. Overheated for only about 3 to 5 mins before I noticed it.

I have the same boat and it has no problem hitting 6 grand on the tach, could it be an oversized prop your dealing with, should be a 13 1/4 x 17, these are overhead cam engines and do whine a little tighter 5,200- 5,600 range.
