2.5hp four stroke Merc

Hoping to get some good news here that I did not make some huge mistake buying a Mercury.... reviews of this engine I bought have been frankly frightening, looking for some good news.. anyone happy with this engine....here's what Im using it on,,i bought a Sundolphin 8.5 Sportsman, cool little fishing boat( it weighs 100 lbs) for the rivers around here..i tried a 40lb thrust trolling motor last sunday, quickly found against the current, battery drained quickly, bad move,, my wife was in a kayak next to me and my son, she blew by us, lol, needless to say it takes way to long to get from one spot to the other, the boats got a 3hp max rating, so I bought this motor, figured it would give me about 6 x the thrust.. I thought Mercury was one of the best....anyone happy with Merc's smaller hp 4 strokes?

i had a mercury 1996 merc 6hp and now own a 15hp merc i use on an inflatable boat. Been fairly reliable for me. Those little mercs are actually Tohatsu engines. One may argue that Japanese make super reliable engines.

Since then, Tohatsu outboards have served a variety of marketplaces: commercial fishing, military, marine transport, surf life saving, recreation and competition racing. They are the second largest producer of outboards in the world.[SUP][citation needed][/SUP] All Nissan outboard engines in North America are Tohatsus with a Nissan decal. [1] In 2011, Tohatsu and Evinrude Outboard Motors made a deal to make smaller engines ranging from 15 HP and down with Evinrude decals. [2]. Mercury Marine's primary business is outboard motors. Mercury Outboards, 30 Hp and less, are made by Tohatsu in Japan.[SUP][1][/SUP]

, no arguing from me Weimed.. Japan does make superior engines......I will only buy a Honda (car) thanks
