Just in case you are interested in the solar route (in addition to the wiring), I was doing some research and came across this:
This one (three 15 watt panels = 45 watts) does 3000 mA and is on sale for $169.99:

Sounds like it would be more than adequate to actually charge batteries, though investing in a controller to prevent over-charging would be a good idea.
