I just bought a 2hp Mariner outboard. I don't know what year it is due to the mount has been changed to a Yamaha mount. The motor is gray in color with a plastic 2 piece engine cover. It also has a direct drive with no neutral or revers. I'm thinking its in the 80s

Is there another place on this engine that i might be able to find a number to tell me the year.

The other thing is what might be the oil mix. The old owner said it was 25/1 but i think that's to thick of a mix.

any help would be helpful
thanks

Re: 2 hp Mariner help

You may find a serial number stamped on the block somewhere. Those early Mariners were Yamahas, which is why the yam mount is there.

Not too sure of the fuel mix... Some of the older small engine did use 25:1

Hay Chris I wonder if you might be able to tell me the approximate year of this motor. Iv noticed that when i was doing research on the net looking for information i found a few for sale but all were in the UK with no years attached to the sales remarks. The badging on this motor is red / lighter red and orange in like a rain bow across the side. IL try to get a pitcher to day maybe that will help.

thanks

Still no picture....

Without the serial number it's very hard to give a year....
