Recently came acrross 2 old outboards and need help identifying worth
I have a small evinrude, ser. # 4423-740450
i also have a 1-20 scott-atwater (shift), 7.5HP ser. # 33254400

To my surprize, when i gave them a pull, they BOTH sounded like they were going to start. I think they are both probablly from the 50's, but really dont know. Any experts out there to help me? i would greatly appreciate it.

The Evinrude is a 1950 or 51 3.3 HP "Sportwin". The Scott is a 1952 "I-20".

By coincidence, I have both of them as well. I paid $25 apiece at garage sales and I have run both. Other than a carb cleaning I just had to replace one of the coils on the 'Rude.

Re: 2 old outboards

I didn't mean to discourage you. I've paid several hundred for Rowboat Motors and Ruddertwins, but I stick to estate and garage sales for the more common ones. I paid $5 last year for a 1941 Evinrude just for a display on my patio and damned if it didnt run....LOL.

There is a good market for 50's runners on E-Bay (if you want to go to all the trouble) and Craigslist as well. Your motors could fetch a couple hundred each if you can demonstrate them running in a barrel to a prospective buyer.

If you got the room, just keep them. Prices are going up all the time.
