I have a couple of problems that I want to run by you guys first before taking it into the shop on Monday. At this point I am tired of messing with it, and want to have someone fix it for me since I've spent more time actually fixing the boat and replacing parts than I've been on it lately.

Problem #1 : Engine stalls after slowing down from WOT. It does it every OTHER time I slow down from WOT. Also, sometimes when I put it in reverse.

Problem #2 : 'No Oil' tone starts at 5200 RPMs and will not stop until I shut off the engine. When I start it back up it will not come back on until I get around 5200 RPMs. I have checked the primer bulb while this is going on, and it is hard as a rock. I cannot squeeze the primer bulb at all while this is happening. Oil reservoir is 3/4 full. Sometimes the engine smokes when I start it, and other times it does not.

Repairs made in the past 3 months : replaced 13 yr. old VRO with new VRO, changed fuel filter, spark plugs changed, Oil reservoir changed with new one, decarbed with OMC engine tuner, replaced Regulator, and installed complete water pump kit.

Like I stated earlier, the stalling only happens when the engine is warm, and when stopping from running around WOT, and only every other time. Not every time. Also, I switched from using Mercury Premium Plus 2 cycle oil to using Pennzoil Marine Premium Plus 2 cycle oil. I'm using Pennzoil now. Could that be a problem?

The oil horn problem just started today. Could it be a bad VRO even though I just changed it?

Lucky....were these problems there before you changed out the VRO pump?

First thing to do is check and make sure you got the right pump. The newest PN for your engine is 5004558.

Second, recheck all the connections to the pump especially to the pulse limiter and oil connections. You did change out the pulse limiter when you changed the pump?

Yes. I changed out the pulse limiter, and got it as tight as I could with the box end wrench I was using. There were a few threads left showing, but that is as far as I could get it. Does it have to be all the way threaded down even if it has a good seal since I used the sealing compound and tightened it as much as I could? By comparing the first and second pulse limiter it seems like the new one is threaded further up the shaft than the other (old) one was.

I just assumed it had to fit as tight and far in as the last.
