Re: 2 questions on 9.9

Quit worrying about the creamy stuff. If you pulled the lower unit oil drain plug and the oil looked good, there's no water getting in. The creamy stuff is just unburnt fuel/unburnt oil/water emulsified, like F-R tried to say. Nothing to worry about.

As for the water draining problem, you have checked ALL of the drain holes in the midsection to make sure they're unclogged, right? If all else fails, you can take off your lower unit and use a section of 3/8 fuel line to attach your water hose to the water tube and run the motor, turning up the water on the hose and try to flush out any passages in the motor that might be blocked. Does your motor have a "flush" plug that you could open up and try to flush anything out? I'm unsure but I believe it does.

I just thought of something----Is there any chance you double oiled your tank and are accidentally running 24:1 instead of 50:1? That would seem the ONLY explanation of your problem if your motor is running good. Just a thought.

Good luck,
JBJ

I dug out the 15 hp Evinrude that had the same issues as your motor minus the drainage problem.
It has sat for a good 6 months since the last time I had it running.
I fired it up and there was no sludge and not much smoke. UNBELIEVABLE.
The last time I ran it their was gunk and smoke everywhere.
Maybe the decarb worked after all.
I messed around with the 2 hp a little bit more and its still a turd. It seemed like it was running a lot better after I removed the lower unit but I ran it a couple more times after that and it seems like its running rough and smoky again.

Thanks for the replys. The oil to fuel mixture is 50:1 and mixed correctly for sure.As I said the motor seems to be smoking less now but still smokes some and understand that may be due to being in the barrel and the cold temps here along with the obvious reason that it's a 2 stroke.I really think the decarb did wonders for the motor and the true results will be this spring on the lake. The stuff originally that was coming out was gray kinda dark gray and thick. Now it's thinner(runnier) and of a beige color. After checking lower unit fluid I do not believe that is contributing to the any of it.It was perfect(lower unit fluid). The change in color must be from all the nasty stuff being cleaned out.The motor runs great, smoke is down some so not to worried right now except for the water not draining properly. This really is not a big deal except in the winter unless thermostat is not working properly then that could cause a problem this spring when I am using the motor trolling all day on Erie with it.This motor is being used as kicker motor on my fishing rig.I could get some heat sticks to test the temps and see what that reads.I will look to see if there is some sort of flush plug on motor. Thanks guys for the input.

Just a heads up on the melt sticks. They are expensive and the little laser guns keep getting cheaper and easier to use. Plus, the laser guns are handy for a lot of other tasks.

Sounds real good so far. I just wanted to say I did a Seafoam treatment last fall on a 9.9 and 4 HP. Never did get a great deal of smoke during the process and was a little disappointed. I new I was doing everything right according to the way T.D. suggested. A few weeks/days later I checked the compression on the 4 and it had gone up by about 15 lbs/cylinder. My motor wasn't full of carbon but the Seafoam obviously loosened my rings and made them seat a lot better. Good luck in the spring. Rick.
