Around here gas with ethanol (10%) in it is cheaper. Someone told me you should not burn this in a 2 stroke motor becuase it runs hotter and will also gum up the motor. Is this true?

as long as you have the other use it. the ethanol, has a tendency to loosen crud in the existing fuel system. causing having to clean the carbs, a couple of times. installing a water/fuel separating canister filter, helps keep the crud from getting to the carbs. 87 octane, and tcw3 oil are fine.

once the motor is clean they run fine on it.

you don't generally want to mix E10 with MTBR fuels because the ethanol mixture can hold more water in suspension. it's also is also more prone to phase separation (water separating from the fuel/oil mixture) leaving you with unusable gas - more of an issue with large fuel tanks, seasonal boating (longer you store it, more chance for it to go bad) and marina gas. otherwise, being a solvent, ethanol theoretically should help carbs stay clean.

Does it affect combustion temp? don't know, but I have no reason to think it does..........

E-10 is working fine in my 1979 vintage carb'd 2-stroke (portable fuel tanks, year-round boating) which is a good thing since its all I have available within 100+ miles.

bottom line, what TD says.....
