Wimusky - Why the hell would I use premium? its not knocking.
It appeared you didn't care for ethanol. Premium doesn't contain ethanol. I agree with 82rude, E10 is not high ethanol. People run it everyday. E-10 will work just fine. Didn't know outboards knock due to lack of octane........

Don't believe everything some clown from Wisconsin says! :)

Says the guy from the left coast.........

BTW snowmobiles are a completely different animal than an outboard, and most issues you see with them are caused by somebody making changes that they don't really understand.

I've never heard of a snowmobile grenading due to ethanol. "Maybe" if they're high hp, high winding engines that only go in a straight line.

I have a 1000 4 stroke Yammy that calls for 88 octane...... But ya, I run premium...........

WIMUSKY marketplace had a excellent peace on pre fuel..Your wasting your money unless your motor specifically requires premium. You actually lose hp ,mileage and put out more pollutants. But if you have been doing it this long I most likely wont change your mind but think of all the money you've wasted.Oh seafoam is not snake oil its the second coming!:D

You're right! You can't take it with ya...... :)

Sea Rider I was wrong .My manual does have warnings about alcohol fuels. But they also say e-10 is ok.Igot gas at a holiday gas station in soo Michigan yesterday and the premium pump stated it was non-e.Gas buddy or someone similar has a list of non-e stations across Canada and U.S.A. I wonder if 4 stroke outboards will ever be flex fuel? You know reg or e-85.

I know a person whom used E-85 in their car. Mileage tanked and I believe performance too... They said never again. I think my wife can run it. It sez E-85 on the cap, nothing about flex. We won't run it.....

Let me guess, CA? I'm sure there is a right way and a wrong way to sneeze out there.........:)
We don't have regulations on that yet...of course it isn't freezing 3/4 of the year here so we don't get couped up inside with sick people all the time.

All OB's manufacturers are in plain agreement, all states max permitted 10% ethanol content it's ok using. Some Owner's Manuals states rubber and plastic deterioration, some don't along warranty issues..

I see you fixed you're attachment.... That's surprising. I thought it would have been the majority of states. I know they sell non-ethanol in all grades just down the road from me. Pricing is high tho.....

In the article, it says CA has no position yet you basically can't buy E0 fuel unless you find a place that sells racing fuel. Problem here is that the major cities have the oxygenated fuel requirement so fuel in the whole state ends up with the same fuel.

Not sure if that article is accurate.

Would be nice to have E0 to get my mileage back. As far as engine damage or anything else, makes no difference to me since E10 works fine.

CARB should know - http://www.arb.ca.gov/fuels/gasoline/faq.htm

I think the Hemmings article is correct. According to CARB, it's zero ethanol required in Ca. gas, however a percentage of oxygenation is required for winter blends. That's where the since eliminated carcinogenic MTBE came from to be replaced by ethanol.

It's the option refiners have allowing up to 10% ethanol that causes all the E10 fuel because ethanol is cheaper with the subsidies and the 10% blend makes more money for them. Another profit maker is by doing E10 year round, there are no change over costs switching from summer to winter blends and back again.

Other than winter fuel, gas producers are required to use a percentage of renewable fuel in gasoline by the EPA regs. So they are required to increase profits with the 10% substitution.
