2 Stroke Scooter....

Well here's the deal.... My brother owns a scooter, and he rides the thing like crazy, till it just suddenly broke down. Seeing is how alot of guys on here are two stroke masters, I thought I'd give this site a shot. It's a standard air cooled 2 stroke, I believe 31cc if I'm not mistake exactly like a string trimmer motor just mounted a differnt way. Here's the deal. We attempted to start the motor after it sitting all winter with no luck. We checked it out, and thought the spark plug might need changed. We changed it, and got just a little hint of a start. Just a little hit or two, espically right after it sits for awhile. If you try and start it and leave it for 20 minuets and come back you can get that hit. It won't run though, it seems to be flooded, the spark plug is soaked. Its a new carburator, brand new. The fuel in the tank is brand new, and if fuel is introduced to the cylinder via the carburator throat it does the same thing, it just hits and attempts to start. It gets good spark outside the motor, but could the excess fuel being sent to the combustion chamber be putting out the spark? Need some suggestions to even start with... Thanks

Sorry do not know much about scooters but here are some suggestions.
What's the compression? (60 psi +)

Is the spark blue (crisp) will it jump a 1/4" gap (could be breaking down under compression)

Does it have a fuel pump or is it gravity feed?

Try disconnecting the fuel line to the carb and crank over until the plug is no longer wet. Then by using a spray bottle with premixed gas give a squirt in the carb and try to start again. If it pops and runs for a second the problem is in the new carb.

Good luck, I'm sure someone will be along that knows more about these.

i haven't checked the compression, but it ran great 5 months ago.... two pulls and it was goin... the old carb had a primer bulb go bad, and you couldn't buy parts to fix it so we bought a whole new carburator... the spark will jump a good gap, so I don't believe its in that.... I haven't tried disconnecting the fuel line yet, but I have tried squirting fuel into the carb itself.... but only to have it hit and then not run... it won't even run for a second just a "hint" of a start... thanks for the suggestions though.

If it's a GENUINE go-ped then it's a Komatsu strimmer motor.Had one here for a while-I used to use it for going to work as it was quicker on the cyclepath than the roads.
5 month old fuel will make it impossible to start-does it smell funny?

If the plug is SOAKED then you've got a problem with the needle valve in the carb sticking open and flooding it.The pump will just keep on pumping fuel in in this instance as there's nothing to stop it. Mine was extremely hard/nigh on impossible to start when flooded.
