20 hr / WOT

Since I'm post happy today, I just thought of something one of the service guys told me. When I purchased the boat, they told me not to run it WOT until I got 20 hrs on it. So for that 20+ hours, I varied my speed as often as I could, but never WOT. I got close a few times. Seems like I heard this same info while lurking in the forums. When I took it in Sat., the guy asked me if I had 10 hrs of WOT on it. I told him no, that's not what I was told. What's up with that ? Apparently there are different schools of thought on this subject. Thanks again.

You heard right the first time! Run it at varied speeds for the first 20 hours and then you can open it up. It's to make sure the rings seat properly!

I musta missed what kind of motor you have. If it's a 2-stroke, don't spend any extended WOT operation time until you've burned up all the "double oil" mix.

Sorry Beernutz, I forgot to mention that. I just assumed, wrong thing to do, that all engines should be treated this way. It's an I/O Volvo 4.3l GXi (EFI).
