200 Evinrude won't start

I hydroplaned out of the water in rough seas with my 200 hp Evinrude outboard. When I came down the engine shut off, now it won't start. It is getting a charge but won't turn over. I checked for loose connections but didn't see anything, though I'm not very familiar with engines. I didn't know if perhaps there might be a fuel shutoff. Does anybody have have any ideas or suggestions?

By"won't turn over" are you saying that the starter won't crank the engine over?

It sounds like it wants to start but it won't. It almost sounds like it's not getting gas.

So I'll assume that the starter is rotating the engine sufficiently to start.Next item I recommend is removing the plug lead one at a time and see if you have fire. Each lead should jump a 1/2" gap to ground while cranking engine. If we can be sure that the engine is getting spark, then we can chase a potential fuel related issue.

Any hints as to what kind of potential fuel related issue it might possibly be? Thank you.

I frankly am not steering in the fuel related direction as being problematic following a rough boat ride.Could be any number of items from my vantage point.Safety lanyard switch, ignition switch,etc....I just feel that starting with a spark test is an excellent place to begin the troubleshooting process.

I got a spark, checked the fuel and oil lines, and the lanyard seems ok,....... I'm at a loss.

Ok,assuming that you are infering that you have good spark on all six jumping 1/2" gap with a crisp blue spark, next thing I would do is to pump up the fuel primer bulb and insure that it will pump up firm and hold medium hand pressure. This will insure that all of the carb float needles are seating and expose any fuel leaks between the primer bulb and the carb inlets.Check this and post your results.

When you are trying to start the engine, are the plugs wet or dry?
