I seem to be having an issue with no spark on cylinders 4 - 5 - 6 with my engine. Hopefully I am counting the cylinders correctly. I started from the starboard top as 1 then crossed over to port top as 2 and so on. I did some resistance tests with my volt meter and I own the book for this engine but just dont want to spend the hard earned $350 on the wrong part. I guess at this point I am second guessing myself and am looking for a little assistance from the community. Any obvious situations that stand out in your professional opinions?
1989 200 Hp Johnson [h=1]J200STLCEB[/h] The previous owner cranked it over thinking that it was a fuel issue for so long that he destroyed the starter. It wouldn't spin fast enough to generate any kind of spark at all until I replaced it. Once I did, the motor now cranks well, but I have found this new issue which is the spark loss as indicated. I've done the basics like compression checks so we are ok there. Thanks for any replies, and I will respond back!..

Have a look in here, its got the trouble shooter for your engine in it

For one bank not firing it says to disconnect the kill circuit wires at the powerpack to begin with and then do some other tests if that doesnt work. I suggest you read through that section before starting. i think your engines on pg52
If it was mine id spray some oil in there so you know she is lubed up during your tests

So you are saying that you have no spark on stbd bottom and the port bottom and middle cylinders. Is that correct? The reason I ask is that usually it is one bank or the other.
Before you spend any money check for bad pins. in the rubber plugs. going to the power pack. It is a fairly common problem. The black and yellow wires going to the pack are a good place to start if one bank is out.The connectors are under the power pack and clip into the plastic housing that the pack sits on.
The CDI manual is helpful but you really need to check the connections especially on that old engine.

Thanks guys, I appreciate all the input and help. After further review, I noticed that the wires going from the stator were cooked in the space between the rectifier and the powerpack. I repaired the wires just to do a quick test and got spark on all cylinders. I tested the rectifier and it tested good, and for the life of me I couldn't find any reason for the wire melt down. I replaced the stator and now have a very good running engine. I am hoping that the wires just wore together or ground out from wear due to its age.?? Well one can hope anyway. No issues yet so I've got my fingers crossed for successful repairs.
