200 HPDI vs 200 4-stroke?

I'm going to be ordering an Everglades 211c this week and I'm debating on the 200HPDI or the 200 4-stroke. What are the pros and cons of each engine and is the HPDI less maintenance intensive than the 4-stroke? I appreciate any input. Thanks

i would have to say the hpdi is more maintenance intensive, plus there is the added cost of oil. the 4stroke weighs a little more and doesnt have the "get up and go" the hpdi does but it is quieter.

Hi,<br />Nice boat You are going to order<br /> http://www.evergladesboats.com/211.html <br />A lot of open deck area.<br /><br />Personally I like 4-strokes very much (came from 2-strokes to 4-strokes a couple of years ago - have a Yamaha F115 now). As long as my outboard is under warranty I do not make any maintenance myself.<br />I assume this will be the case for You also?<br />As long as the maintenance schedule is followed I see no reason why You can not select any of the two outboards You mention.<br />You can do a search on HPDI in this forum and maybe get some info how reliable it can be and what trouble people may have with this type of 2-stroke technology. You do not hear much about problems with Yamaha F200/225 in this forum.<br /><br />You can download the PDF manuals from Yamaha US site for both outboards You are interested in and in the Maintenance chapter You can have a look at the Maintenance chart. That way You can get an idea what regular maintenance is recommended.<br /><br />I assume it is the 200 2.6L HPDI You are interested in, not the 200 3.3L V MAX HPDI.<br /><br />The 200 HPDI will probably be slightly faster but if that is not that important to You the F200 will probably be just fine. I see the boat You are going to order is approved for up to 225 hp so You could hang a F225 on this boat if you want.<br />The F200/225 is rather quiet so that is a plus (I see the outboard on the Everglades 211c is rather much exposed to the 2 rear passengers so I'm sure they will like a quiet outboard). <br /><br />Perhaps the F200 is somewhat more forgiving regarding maintenance neglect but in the end any outboard that is not taken care of will fail and according to Murphy's law it will be at worst situation when You need to rely on your outboard the most.<br /><br />Good luck!
