I have a 97 Ocean Pro 200 on a 22 ft Seastealth (heavy boat) and I just spent a bunch of time on repairs. (see my other posts) Now that I have a newer, more accurate tach I wonder about my prop. I have a 14 3/4 x 19 Viper SS on it and I really like it. It's nicely cupped and climbs the waves well. At 4000 rpms, it runs about 27 mph, and about 33 mph at 4500. At full throttle it will run about 42-45 mph, but it only spins about 5100-5200. My question is: will it hurt my motor to leave this prop on or would you have it repitched / replaced with a 17 pitch? I don't think it hurts the engine any and I know that a 17 pitch would spin it up to about 5500-5600, but it would hurt the cruise speeds at 27 mph, and 33 mph. Let me know your thoughts... and by the way the motor runs better than it ever has since the repairs. Thanks for everyone's input during the work.
