Re: 2000 225 H.P. Evenrude Ficht
The ficht name has been tagged as a problem engine. A number of factory mods were issued for these engines in the 97-99 timeframe when they were produced under the OMC label. Most of the problem engines were the 60 degree block engine family. These mods uncluded oil pumps, vibration dampers, heads, software-some major items. Your engine is a 90 degree block and was not as problematic as the 60 degree ones. In the 2000 model year Bombardier took over and brought improved engineering and quality control back, along with a Bombardier warranty. As tashasdaddy indicated, I'd call a local dealer and have him check to see if there are any open mods that should be applied (or were applied) by a dealer-to the engine. They can also tell you what warranty (if any) had been done during the warranty period. Before purchase, I'd probably ask the owner to take to the local Bombardier dealer and have the on-board computer interogated for number of hours in each rpm range, faults and do a compression check, check lower unit oil, etc.
