2000 50hp Johnson just shut down

Last night after a couple hours on the water I went to pick some people up at the ramp. Motor started right up got on plane and it just shut down.

It's got gas, fuel/water separator is fresh, fuel pump pumping.

There is no spark.

It's not my boat I'm borrowing it while I rebuild mine and my manual only covers up 1990.

Which wire is the engine kill?

black with yellow tracer. did you check the lanyard, often over looked.

Yeah thanks I just check the black and yellow - no help and no there is no there is no lanyard.

I'm guessing it's either the coil or the powerpack but I'm not sure how to test them.

ANy thoughts?

i would look at the power pack.

Hey thanks man for the reply.

My friend John that owns the boat is taking it tomorrow to a friend of his' stop. A old guy outboard guru from what I understand that if we bring him beer at the end of the day he'll diagnose it for us for free and then sell us the part.
