I am looking at buying this boat from a marina. modle year 2000 sport fish 2050.

I do not know much about crestliner, so your thoughts would be great to hear. My primary use would be trolling in lake Erie. Will i get beat up with this boat? It has an I/O i have never had one and not sure if i like them. Opinions on those 4.3 alpha 1

Thanks

Should be a nice ride for Lake Erie as that's what the boat was designed to do. You'll appreciate the quality of Crestliners. What kinds of boats have you had in the past?

Re: 2000 crestliner sportfish 2050

I have right now 1400sc monark That is my small water boat

17 foot sport craft Advanture with 90hp merc (tried to make it work for Erie, but just cant get the bugs worked out)

19 foot Regal with 115 evinrude, project boat.

What I hope to do is either sell or trade in the Sport craft, and maybe the regal on the crestliner. My major problam is that i am not sold on the I/O. The Crestliner is so much wider than i am use to, i am in heaven. But the design they went with i feel is a mixed blessing. Instead of haveing the normal box over the motor they just made it the width of the beam to cover the whole motor.

Yeah, I see what you're saying. Keep looking as there are plenty of Crestliners with outboards out there on the cheap. The boat in my signature cost me $3,600 in May 2007. It had only 20 hours on it and had been winterized and not registered since 1997. I replaced the batteries and an additional $500 at the Evinrude mechanic to replace the carb, impeller, and give it a tuneup and I have not had an issue since.

Regardless of which one you get (I/O or outboard), I think Crestliner makes a good boat. The seams are all welded, so it is a little heavier than riveted boats, but they are indeed strong. I toured the Crestliner factory in Little Falls, MN, and was quite impressed. I ended up getting a new Lund, however, partly because the Crestliner dealer in our area had a lousy reputation (they have since closed 6 of their stores), while the Lund dealers had good marks.

I have a 1980 21 foot Crestliner with an I/O and love it. I do not know Lake Erie and what type of Seas it has. Only thing about the new Crestliners is none of them have a Closed Bow. In big water I belive a closed bow add extra saftey from big waves. Again I do not know if lake Erie gets big breaking waves.

My boat I will not launce if the seas are over 8 foot or less than 8 seconds if I am heading out to open water. I have been out in 9 foot seas every 6 seconds and did not take on a drop of water but it was not much fun.

My boat is not as wide as the new boats. Mine is 92 inch beam and the new ones are as wide as 106 inches.
