The wife's Windstar's tranny just gave up the ghost I think. On the way home it just dropped out of gear going up a hill and that was all she wrote. It wouldn't go into any gear. There was never any grinding/crunching sounds and there's plenty of fluid.

I drug it home a few minutes ago and I guess I'll be calling the shops tomorrow but If anyone has any ideas as to some silly thing I've overlooked, fire away. I'll take some humility over a replacement transmission bill.:(

The only good thing about my wifes Windstar transmission was that it quit while it was in the garage & didn't stand her. It just wouldn't go. New tranny was required. I've put the cost out of my mind, but think thousands. I got a new one from Ford. A rebuild probably would have been cheaper.

No reverse at all. OD light works. I suspected the worst based on Tarus/Windstar trans history. Oh well, time to erase the emergency fund.:(

I just rebuilt a friend's Tranny in his windstar. The intermieate clutch piston failed. They don't explode inside thats the CD4e trans. not the ax4n or the ax4s. If you buy a chevy expect to replace the everything else on the vehicle. GM vehicles is what pays for my toys.

A Ford Taurus shouldn't be towing itself let alone a boat.

I drug it to the shop in town today. They estimated $600 if it's the torque converter, just under $1000 if it's the pump and $1600 for a rebuilt tranny. I should know more tomorrow...

Turned out to be the torque converter. $647 ($600 + tax) and they finished it in one day. Not too bad I guess.

Hmmmmmmm........looks to be a recurring problem. My 2000 company Windstar cargo van gave up a transmission as well as my friends 2004 Taurus at 60,000 miles. :(

Maybe it's time to shop for a Triumph :D:D

Keep your bill for the repairs as you might get something back from Ford ....there was a class action suit going on here in Canada about those tranny's maybe the same in the states google it
