How do you turn the idle up a little on these motors? Do i just need to adjust my cables to make it idle a little faster.Starts and runs great but will die if i let it idle for not very long. Thanks

Re: 2000 Johson 50hp idle to low

The only adjustment I am aware of on your engine is a slow speed needle valve on each carburetor. Gently seat both of them clockwise counting the exact turns required to seat them. Then back them off counter clockwise however many it took to seat them plus 1/4 turn more and test.many of them will usually end up around 3 to 3 1/2 turns.make sure both carbs are set the same. Another item you can check is to insure that the throttle linkage roller (when shift lever is in neutral) is on center in-line with the scribe mark of the fiber throttle cam and just touching. This adjustment is quite critical on those two cylinder loopers. An out of adjustment scenario will be most evident when attempting to initially throttle up from idle speed in gear.

Also insure that the engine is not mounted too low on boat transom as these engines are sensitive to excessive exhaust back pressure.Particularly with respect to idling smoothly.
