When my oil ran low (out?) on my 2000 Merc 225hp bluewater the oil light and horn (4 beeps) came on. After refilling it and power cycling the boat it stays on. The boat is consuming the 2-stroke oil at it's normal rate.

Where is the oil level sensor? I assumed it would be a float but can't see it on the tank. The tank is plastic with the pressure in one end and two hoses out the other end. The tank does develop pressure.

Help.. Where is the oil level sensor.

Thanks,
Jon

I had the same problem with my 97 225 EFI. There is a float sensor within the cap on the kidney tank under the cowling.

That float could be stuck in the low level position.

After checking operation of the switch, fill the kidney tank to 90% and see if the alarm goes away.

You can also search this site for MERC 225 for some good info.

Dave

DO NOT put the cap on too tight on the kidney tank, they have a tendancy to break at the top thread on the cap.

I agree...Don't over tighten that cap. Very expensive mistake!!
