AD, I'm just going to leave the motor in for now until she grenades or gives up the ghost.
As far as this thread went, I wish I would have taken more photos of the engine removal process. It did not go easy and I could have given some pointers on necessary tools and such. I do have some ground wire repairing to do. And some other clean up stuff. It is important to scrape and paint any rusted metal or corroding aluminum that is seen while the block is out. Just good housekeeping. The power steering lines should be checked at this time also. One of mine had the elbow rusting through behind the motor where it was not easily seen. All hoses should be checked for dry rot, pinch points, rubs, or cuts. I am going to pop out my freeze plugs and try flushing some of the crud and sand out of the block.
I saw a thread back in 2015 where Bondo, Achris and a few others chimed in about which type of grease to hit the spline zerk fittings on the coupler. I have a good marine grease loaded up. Can I use this stuff or do I need to go with the type mercruiser states to use, Quicksilver.
