So, drained the ol' single point today using Merc procedure. I had been reading up on this system here, and had got spooked a bit about the block draining fully. So, following recommendations here, I removed the block drain hose connections, no water came out. I used a long allen head wrench as the prod, and poked into the fitting, all the way to the block, no resistance at all and no scale came out. Moved the prod in a circle, nada-nothing-bupkis. When I pushed the prod in quickly it made a nice "ting" when it hit the other edge of the block. I kept track of how much prod went in to get the ting, it was definitely getting all the way in. All of the hoses and connections looked to be in great shape, Both sides of the block had exactly the same results.

This is not what I expected, but I guess I have to accept the results :)

Buttoned it all back up and ready for whatever is next.

Fresh water ? You won't get much scale, and perhaps not that much sediment.

Cool. I was just used to a prior boat that was super scaly and blocking draining until I poked it all 5 seasons I had it, all fresh water, a GM 5.7. I got that prior boat when it was at about the same age in years as this current boat is now. Even though getting to those 2 hoses is a major pain in this new boat, nice to know that system works ok and probably will for several seasons with no prodding.

Ayuh,..... No way in 'ell, I'd take that risk,......

It's a system designed to fail,....... eventually,.....

Always pull those hoses and poke the drains. Even if you have to hire a super skinny meth head to reach in there and poke em. Then don't trust em because they're addicts and poke the drains yourself
